ONDES MARTENOT
An early electronic instrument, the French ondes Martenot (or ondes musicales) is somewhat more refined sounding than its Russian cousin the theremin. Its added keyboard allows for virtuosic passages not possible on theremin, and its use of diffusers help to better blend the electronic sonority within acoustic ensembles. I have two diffusers; a floating soundboard « Voile » model from French maker La Voix du Luthier; and a métallique (a Martenot invention which uses a suspended gong instead of a speaker cone, creating a very special sonority) from Eowave.
